NANTUCKET ISLAND COMPOUND: MAIN HOUSE, GUESTHOUSE, GARDEN STUDIO

Located on a picturesque spit of land on Nantucket Island, this new compound sits between saltwater marshes, tidal wetlands, and the Nantucket Harbor. The design strategy draws inspiration from the connected farm complexes of New England, evoking the region’s history of local sheep farming. Using this precedent, a narrative was developed to create a plausible—but fictitious—history of the site and its buildings, imagining how they might have evolved over time. This approach reduces the apparent scale of the buildings, minimizes their impact on the landscape, and imbues the project with an authenticity that blurs the line between past and present.
