PRIMARY SUITE IN CAMBRIDGE, MA

In this Cambridge townhome, an underutilized attic was transformed into a sophisticated third-floor Primary Bedroom Suite – designed as a quiet private space for calm and tranquility.

A custom mahogany screen wall, inspired by mid-century design, is a defining feature. It anchors the bed within the space, adds warmth, and creates visual separation without blocking natural light. Floating shelves showcase the homeowners’ collection of mementos, while suspended linear lighting provides even illumination beneath the asymmetrical ceiling.

The spa-inspired bathroom maximizes its compact footprint with a carefully composed elevation – a warm walnut vanity, dynamic herringbone tile, and a walk-in shower with built-in bench tucked beneath low headroom, naturally lit by a new skylight and window. Relocating an existing electrical panel created valuable additional space and functionality, while re-routing a decommissioned baseboard line provided hydronic heat for a wall-mounted towel warmer – complementing new electric radiant floor and shower bench heating.

At the suite’s entry, a reconfigured stair landing improves headroom and creates a private vestibule. Upgraded insulation and efficient mechanical systems enhance comfort and performance - all achieved within the existing building envelope.
