NET-POSITIVE NEW HOME: CAMBRIDGE, MA
“SOLAR WINGS”
The design concept for this new residence was conceived around roof forms that function as “solar wings,” supporting two solar arrays that are integral to both the architecture and the home’s performance. The completed home achieved a HERS Index of -14 and exceptional airtightness of 0.53 ACH50, reflecting the combined performance of its high-performance building envelope, air-source heat pumps, heat-pump water heating, and on-site solar generation. The home generates more electricity annually than it consumes while exceeding the City of Cambridge’s new climate and flood resilience standards.
